How to read the gold price chart

Why does the chart step rather than curve?
The Thai gold price changes when the Gold Traders Association announces a new one, rather than moving continuously the way the world gold price does. A normal trading day carries roughly 20–30 announcements, so the line moves in steps.
Is this the buy price or the sell price?
It is the sell price of 96.5% bullion — what a buyer pays at the shop. The buy-back price is always lower, and the gap between the two is the shop's margin.
Why is the chart flat at the weekend?
Saturday carries a single announcement and Sunday carries none, so a weekend chart has one point or no points at all. On those days this page shows the most recent trading day instead, and names the date.
Does this price include the workmanship fee?
No. This is the bullion price, which carries no workmanship fee. Jewelry gold adds a workmanship fee on top of the gold price, varying by design and by shop.
